I highly recommend Chesapeake Yacht Services. I have used Stan for Boating Lessons, Consultation (regarding boat purchase), and Yacht Transport. Once you work with Stan, he will always take your call, or return your email should you need a question answered or to ask his advice for a mechanic or other vendor.
My first boat was a 35’ Express. I had no experience, and “did not know what I didn’t know.” Stan taught me everything: Safety, Engines/Systems, Docking, Anchoring and Kedging, Man Over Board, Radar, Navigation, Charting Courses by hand, proper VHF techniques, boating etiquette, knots/ line handling, basic maintenance, etc. After a few trips with Stan, I was able to handle my boat safely and confidently. I was amazed at how much more I knew about boat handling than more experienced boaters. Let Stan teach you, and you’ll enjoy boating much more.
When it came time to upgrade to a larger boat, Stan helped me again. He consulted with me, along with my broker, and provided invaluable assistance as we shopped for boats. We bought my current boat, a 47’ Riviera Convertible, from Ft Lauderdale. Stan, my brother, and I brought it back from there. I had the time of my life. We flew to Ft. Lauderdale to bring my boat back. Believe it or not, we had mechanical issues from the start, and too many to mention here. But Stan is a “get your hands dirty” kind of man. Between his tools and his brain, and his contacts up and down the Intra Coastal Waterway, he was able to get all repairs made—as issues popped up. He is not lazy, and his personality is to get things done properly. And everyone on the Chesapeake and along the ICW knows him. The boat was much larger than my old boat, and quite intimidating for me. When we left the dock, I said “Go ahead Stan, I’ll take it later.” Alas, Stan said, “You know the drill,” and I took the helm. “You can do it, just trust what you know,” he said. So I learned quickly. I don’t know if bigger boats are easier to drive than smaller, but for me, I say yes. Absolutely, my 47’ boat is much easier to dock than my 35’. But I had Stan show me the way!
