                 BOATING LESSONS

Operating a boat properly is a bit more challenging than the salesman may have told you when you purchased it.

You have wind, currents, tides and other boaters with which to contend. Add to that your "helpful" brother-in-law who gives poor advice and tries to shove off the dock with a boat hook or worse yet his hands, and you have the ingredients of an unhappy day on the water.

Here are some telltale signs that the skipper of a vessel may need a bit of training:

  • They will not attempt to dock in a small space even though the boat will fit easily with the right techniques
  • The boat rarely gets used except on the calmest days.
  • There is stress evident with the skipper and the crew as they approach the dock.
  • Docking the boat is accompanied by shouting, hasty pushing off of the dock, other vessels, etc.
  • The boat has dings and dents from unsuccessful docking maneuvers,
  • The boat is used so rarely that it seems wiser to sell it.

Our step-by-step instruction is custom tailored to meet your specific needs, whether you have a pontoon boat or a 100 foot motor yacht.(Yes, we have trained new owners of large yachts too!)

First, we determine what your training needs are. Then we begin to teach you how to operate your boat safely and competently.

Our areas of training include:

  • Boating safety
  • Close quarters boat handling (docking, etc.)
  • Weather handling (wind, currents, tides, etc.)
  • Emergency procedures
  • Navigation
  • Proper knots
  • Teamwork when docking
  • Boat management

At least the boat is still ok...
